General Information
Foundation and mission
CEREI is a 501 (c)(3) scientific non-profit organization under the Internal Revenue Service regulations, that was founded in March 2007 by Dr. Kankoe Assiongbon, a research scientist in hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. CEREI’s mission is to ensure energy independence/security, economically and environmentally viable community through intensive scientific research efforts in the field of clean/renewable energies. With oil price increasing at alarming rates and the impacts of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on public health and the planet, CEREI is committed to taking scientific leadership to advance research in clean energy technologies to reduce the US dependence on foreign oil and fight GHG emissions. In addition, CEREI strives for academic excellence in science and engineering.
Project summary
CEREI’s long-term research investigations are to address the complex environmental challenges of modern time that are the human induced-GHG emissions that increasingly are responsible for global warming and climate change. We believe that solutions to this global issue require long-term research in environmentally friendly energy sources, and their use at large scale. This research is to develop cost-effective fuel cell technologies that will help reduce GHG emissions mainly from our nation’s transportation sector that accounts for a third of GHG emissions in the US. We investigate on alternative and clean fuels such as hydrogen and bio-fuels. These fuels are receiving incredible attention due to their relatively high energy density and their potential promises in developing portable power sources, electric vehicles, and they offer solutions to major energy related issues our nation is currently facing: climate change, dependence on oil imports, air pollution, GHG emissions, etc.
Education programs
The mission of our Education Department is to prepare college students to sustain the nation’s present and future energy needs and function in technologically rich environment, strive for academic excellence in science and engineering. Our distinctive role in education is to train today’s college students to become future leaders in clean energy science, and empower them to deepen their learning, build their skills and knowledge to advance their study, and more particularly develop their problems solving skills through experimental research work. We are committed to driving academic success, personal and intellectual development, fostering diversity and establishing a friendly and engaging working/learning environment to maintain student interest.
Outcomes and benefits
- Our research efforts will lead to cost-effective clean energy technologies, and undoubtedly contribute to cut down our dependence on foreign oil and fight GHG emissions.
- CEREI will offer outstanding study/research opportunities to college students and prepare them for our nation’s present and future energy needs.
- Our efforts will create professional jobs for today and tomorrow, drive “green economy growth”, save billions of dollars on energy costs, and improve our citizens’ live by protecting our environment, and improving our water and air quality.
